Epilog, a fast-growing global med-tech company based in Ghent, has just signed a collaboration agreement with Persyst, a US based company and global leader in EEG software. The partnership will enable Epilog to scale the commercialization of their biggest clinical EEG product, Epilog PreOp that localizes the epileptogenic focus, with plans to develop it further and make it widely available across epilepsy centers in the US and Europe.
The partnership comes at a key time in the field of epilepsy. With recent improvements in healthcare technology to diagnose epilepsy, physicians are facing an increase in amount of patient data and have less time to thoroughly assess it under the increasing burden of healthcare cost. In epilepsy evaluation this particularly is a problem since thoroughly assessing several types of datasets is essential for the successful treatment of epilepsy and requires careful consideration and time investment by the clinical team.
PreOp is unique in that it leverages the latest cutting-edge technological advances for epilepsy evaluation while increasing the efficiency of the clinician’s time. By joining forces, the two companies’ aim is to offer an integrated EEG source localization product on the Persyst platform.
“We’re excited to announce this partnership with Persyst,” says co-CEO Dr. Strobbe. “We’ve worked closely with Nicolas Nierenberg, the CEO of Persyst, and his team for the past three years. Therefore, we are proud to formalize the partnership and move forward together with the worldwide leader of EEG software.”
“We’ve enjoyed the relationship with Epilog as they’ve integrated Persyst as the spike detection engine for the PreOp product,” says Nicolas Nierenberg CEO of Persyst. “We think they’ve developed an outstanding solution for EEG source localization and are looking forward to developing our shared product offering.”
This is widely seen as a step forward not only for both companies, but also for epileptologists and ultimately epilepsy patients themselves. By joining forces, the companies aim to develop more and better integrated solutions to increase diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.
The first shared goal is to launch the integrated solution for EEG source localization at the European Epilepsy Congress next June in Geneva. In the meantime, they will continue to gather in-depth customer feedback and do qualitative testing with key centers across the world.
